Chemmy
Alcott to take part in Dancing on Ice
- Read this article on ifyouski.com - it is a good factual article with a few quotes from Chemmy. Dancing on Ice (DOI)
starts at 18:30 on Sunday 8th January 2012 on ITV.
- On her Twitter feed, Chemmy said "I understand some people maybe confused at my participation on DOI 2012. I am a rehabbing athlete who has NOT quit her first love skiing.
After my horrendous crash last year ice skating is enabling me to find the link between my head and metal right leg. It is helping, not
hindering, my rehab. I was never going to be able to compete in ski racing this year so DOI has given me numerous opportunities including
teaching me how to feel my feet, strengthening sport specific muscles and raising the profile of me and the sport I love. Don't forget
it costs me and our federation at least £90,000 per year for me to ski. I have to find money personally to cover this. the worst would be for me
to fight back from injury only to find I don't have enough money to fund a world class programme. So sceptics be silenced, I am doing this
so that I can return to being Britain's best World Cup skier. My aims and goals haven't changed. In fact they are stronger than ever."

British Ski & Snowboard Consultation on Racer Age Category Changes
- FIS has recently approved changes to the Alpine Ski Racer age categories and designations. The changes come into force
for the Winter Season 2012/13 and some of the changes require consideration to be given to the impact on the British Ski Racing Rules (BCR and BACR).
- The normal position is that the British Rules follow the International ones unless there is good reason to make a change.
With regard to the Age Category changes, there may be reason to make separate British rules.
- To enable the TD Forum to make an informed decision, it is seeking views from the Alpine Ski Racing community
at large: racers, parents, coaches, officials, clubs, Home Nation organisations. The decision will be taken at the
November 2011 meeting of the Forum.
- More details are in a consultation document available as a
html page or a
PDF Doc. It also tells you
how to make your views known.

RSS News Feeds - what are they and how do I read them?
- RSS feeds are a spam-free, quick and efficient way to read news and weblogs.
To get the most out of newsfeeds, you need a powerful aggregator, though, that lets you
organize, search, categorize and use news items just like emails.
- You'll need a good RSS News Feed reader to do this - Google Reader
is one of the best. There are lots out there, each with their
own specialities and quirks, so pick one that suits you, but if you don't know then try Google Reader.
- Click here for a good, sub four minute, video
Beginners Guide to RSS.

How the Equality Act 2010 affects sports clubs
-
- The Government Equalities Office has prepared guidance on the changes that
have recently been made to the Equality Act 2010 which may
affect some sports clubs.
- The provisions in the Act do not necessarily
apply to all sports clubs, but they do
affect clubs/associations which:
- * have 25 or more members, and
- * control access to membership by rules involving a selection process.
- For example, clubs which require people to make a personal application, be
sponsored by other members and/or go through some kind of selection process will be affected by the changes.
-
The guidance can be found here
on this site or on the Government
Equalities web site
here along with
other useful information.

Skiing
- It's ecstasy, anguish, joy and despair.
- It's part of our history.
- It's part of our country and will be part of our future.
- It's theatre, art, war and love.
- It should be predictable, but never is.
- It's a feeling that can't be explained but we spend our lives explaining it.
- It's our religion. We do not deny it, we do not apologise for it.
-
- We know how you feel about it because we feel the same.
